The sea has always been my safe place. Down there my mind goes quiet, my heart slows down and I learn to look slowly. These photos are what I’ve found in that silence.
Cada invierno regresan, y cada invierno salgo a verlasEvery winter they come back, and every winter I go out to meet them
No me acostumbro.
I never get used to it. A gray whale comes up to breathe, the water opens, and for a moment everything stops. A humpback breaches off Los Cabos as if it weighed nothing. A mother swims slowly so her calf doesn’t fall behind.
Lo que he visto allá abajoWhat I’ve seen down there
Animals, friends who dive with me and the light when it touches the surface. Tap any photo to see it larger.
Orcas arrive without warning. When they pass close, all you can do is stay still, hold your breath and watch.

Some things a photo can’t quite tell: the sound of the water, the rhythm of a whale as it breathes.
Hola, soy RicardoHi, I’m Ricardo
I’m an underwater photographer. The sea has always been my passion and the place where I find calm: down there everything slows down, the noise from land stays above, and the only thing that matters is the next breath.
Over the years I learned that the best photos are rarely chased: they arrive when you stop chasing them. The sea lion that comes back to look at you, the manta that passes twice, the light that breaks through just as you were about to go up.
I’m also a freediving instructor. Diving on a single breath taught me to move without making noise, and you can see it in every photo. Now I teach it too.
This page is my way of sharing what the sea has taught me to see.
¿Bajamos juntos?Shall we dive together?
I love photographing people in the water. If you’ve never posed for a camera under the sea, don’t worry: before the photo I’ll teach you how to breathe, let go and feel at ease. The sea does the rest.
I also work with freedivers, schools, hotels and brands who want real images of the Baja sea. As an instructor I know how to move along the line without getting in the way, and how to wait for the animal to come closer on its own.
And if you’d like one of these photos on your wall, write to me and we’ll figure out the print.

Tell me what you have in mind and when you’d like to do it. I’ll get back to you as soon as I’m out of the water.
